How I improved my wellbeing through knowledge of the pelvic floor
The first and arguably most important thing I learned at pelvic floor physio was how my body works: what I have, where it is, what it does, and how it serves me- in good or bad times. How can we expect something to operate optimally when we don't understand its function?
Pelvic floor physio quickly showed me that so many of the things I had taught myself to live with were perhaps common, but not innate. The symptoms we dismiss as to be expected can in fact be changed, and we don't have to experience this discomfort if we don't want to. Constipation, frequent urination, sexual discomfort, and pelvic pain; these are all things I convinced myself were standard. Turns out, there is someone who will address these matters openly with you, and provide you with answers and strategies to manage. I have immense gratitude for this work and how far it can take you.
After a handful of sessions, I have more compassion for my body, a clearer understanding of my anatomy, increased performance at the gym with less injury or pain, and an invaluable relationship with my breath. This knowledge combined has contributed to my overall wellbeing and the quality of my day to day life. I highly recommend this service for anyone with a pelvis.
